Meet FRC Team 2910: Jack in the Bot

The HM Jackson High School Robotics Club was founded in 2008 to become FRC Team 2910: Jack in the Bot. Over the years, we’ve have consistently improved in our competitiveness at FIRST® FRC competitions. 2019 saw us win four blue banners at district events, and at the PNW District Championship, earning a return to Houston World Championships. In Houston, we made it to the Newton Division quarter finals, and brought home a Quality Award, our first adjudicated award from Worlds.

Where it all started

In August 2008, a group of Boeing employees met with a Jackson career technical education teacher at Round Table Pizza. Soon after, a live NASA broadcast presented our first FRC challenge. We crafted a robot that was thought to have a chance against the veteran competitors. Alongside building the robot, we had to organize team communication, rules, and funding. The task was accomplished with a combination of hard work and community support.

Now, years later, we are as capable as ever. Our team has collected a number of awards, including blue banners for PNW and World Championship events. Although many of our members have come and gone, we are lucky enough to have dozens of fresh faces each year ready to explore and learn. Many alumni have rejoined the team as mentors and they are as important as ever.

As the cycle begins again, we aim to recruit as many new members as possible, to overhaul our lessons and training, and begin a new era of safety culture. Our team hopes to accomplish that as well as emphasize the importance of precision and cooperation through the use of CAD. We are also hoping to build our Marketing & Media team to represent Team 2910 to the fullest.

Our mission

Our mission is to inspire young people to become leaders in the fields of science and technology. Through exciting mentor-based programs that build the necessary skills, students learn not only how enjoyable the field is, but just how much they are capable of. We strive to build a healthy and productive team dynamic that inspires innovation and above all, prioritizes safety. Life capabilities such as self-confidence, communication, and leadership are skills and knowledge that students will acquire here, and will stay with them beyond high school and into their future careers.

Our goals

  • To impart young people with the knowledge and skills to become leaders in science and technology.
  • To create a safe environment in which students can learn, experiment, and grow.
  • To have a positive impact on the community around us through outreach, volunteering at events, and other community involvement opportunities.
