There was an electric buzz in the air this morning as teams from all over the world tuned in to the 2023 FIRST kickoff broadcast. The boosters flipped for a pancake breakfast for the team while everybody held their breaths in anticipation of the game. At about ten o’clock PST, the Charged Up game was revealed, inspiring teams with a brand-new, refreshing challenge, completely original compared to previous years. The game’s highlight is the charge station–a raised platform that tilts when pressure is applied, creating ramps on either side that robots must traverse for points. Quickly, students began brainstorming ideas to tackle this unique obstacle. Once the broadcast was over, we jotted down a list of functions the robot should have. Overall, we had an exciting, productive, and charged-up kickoff!
