It was an amazing week in Houston. Going in to the Championships, we pored over the division assignments and match schedules, we knew it would be a challenge.
We were placed in the Newton division with some of the best teams in the world, and were scheduled to play mostly against them in qualifications. Some difficult matches and a couple of unfortunate break-downs — which can happen to the best, and do — and we ended qualifications in 15th place, with a record of 7-3, and four ranking points short of the number 1 seed.
At alliance selection, the 2nd seed alliance captain, 2471 Mean Machine (Camas WA), picked us in the first round. Our alliance was filled out by 3598 SEStimatic Eliminators (Sacramento CA) and 5109 Gladiator Robots (Johns Creek GA). Sadly our competition ended in the quarter-finals. You can see all of our matches for Worlds and the rest of the season on TheBlueAlliance.com.
Despite our early exit from eliminations, Team 2910 didn’t walk away empty handed. At the awards ceremony on Saturday morning, our team received the Quality Award for the Carver-Newton combined divisions. This is the first adjudicated award we’ve received at Worlds, and something to be very proud of.
Once we were out of the eliminations, we enjoyed the rest of our time at a more relaxed pace; packing up for shipment and cheering for other teams through the final matches on Einstein Field at Minute Maid Park. The last thing to happen that evening was the reveal of the 2020 game theme, FIRSTRise: Infinite Recharge, powered by Star Wars: Force for Change.
Looking back on our season, our team met or exceeded every one of the goals we set before build season began. Our trip to Worlds was icing on that cake, and we are very proud of our accomplishments this year.
We cannot wait to see what next season will bring. Thank you to all our sponsors, boosters, and parents for your ongoing support through the season.
